Before she was the lake woman of India, Revathi Kamath was a child prodigy on the veena. Born into a family where music was fundamental, she has spent her life proving that art and seva are not separate callings. They are one.
Explore Sri Shyamala Krishna Sangeetha SabhaThe Karnataka Kalashree Award recognises her dedication, devotion and contribution in the field of music as a veena player. A true artist who has excelled in music and has always been humble from the beginning of her musical path, kept her passion alive through every high and low of life.
The universe is the art of god incepted with the stroke of sound, the Nada, blending the cosmic colours in Laya, the time, and painted in a rhythmic pattern, the ThaLa. Music is hence the supreme form of art.
For children, music is not an extracurricular. It is a language that teaches discipline, patience, culture and the capacity to listen. When a child learns classical music, they learn to be present, to be humble and to be part of something larger than themselves.
This is why Sri Shyamala Krishna Sangeetha Sabha exists. Because music must not be a privilege of the wealthy. It is a right of every child.
"It takes many lifetimes of learning to master music, the breath of the divine. Only and only the disciplined dears the divine."
Born to Vainika Vidwan Shri N. Krishnamurthy, a disciple of Mysore Court Scholar Veena Venkatagiriappa, Revathi Kamath inherited music in her very nature. She began learning at a very young age and was an enthralling performer from the beginning.
She pursued her music training under the finest masters including Vidwan Shri N. Krishnamurthy, Kalai Mamani Vidwan Shri R.K. Suryanarayana, Nada Chintamani Vidwan Shri S.V. Giridhar, and Scholar Shri B.R. Sridhar.
She has performed at the Mysore Dasara Festival, the Art of Living World Culture Festival, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in London, the World Culture Festival in Dubai and over two dozen prestigious sabhas and festivals across Karnataka and India.
She remains untouched by praises and continues to walk her path. One will certainly feel divinity in her humility despite her knowledge, success, fame and the aura centred by her persona.
